I write to be the characters that I'm not.

On the vernal equinox
I emerged from my hole
And blinked at the all- too-subtle sunlight
Dilating my larger-than-life pupils

I breathed in the sour air
Filling my lungs with the stale oxygen of winters past
And saw the other creatures who were hiding
Doing the same

Summer Solstice came and went
The longest ray of light hiding behind my
All-too-real fears and my not-so-real imagination
Decision Day

Decisions, decisions, as that last ray of light
Peeked behind the autumnal colors
And the hopes that I once had of seeing you
Disappeared with the crunching leaves

And on the darkest day,
As I fell into what seemed to be an endless sleep
I proclaimed that I would not rise out of my hidey-hole
Until Decision Day came again
Just as I do every year
