Blue Eyes

It's sad
how nobody ever told you
that your eyes aren't blue.
They never bothered to say how
your eyes are the colour of the sky
reflecting off the ocean waves.
They never even mentioned how
your eyes are the colour
of a newborn baby boy's blanket.
They didn't dare tell you
how your eyes light up with excitement
as they twinkle in the light
when you are filled with happiness.
Nobody ever told you about your eyes.
Everybody told you
that your eyes are blue.
