Our Masterpiece By: Barbara Rivera
  When I kissed you
  Ink dripped from our
  linked tongues
  Into your hands
  That left word prints
  On my back
         As you lift me
  I wrap my legs
  Around your waist
  Our bodies drawing
  Rapid waves
  Pinning ourselves
  Onto a bed
  Filled with paper sheets
      We were writing poetry
      We were a never ending
  Creation of a masterpiece
  Waiting to be mastered
      And then I woke up
  To an empty room
  The walls screamed
  Empty lines
  I couldn’t find the
Strength to pick up the pen
  To write us
  A better ending
  The blank spaces
  You left behind
  Drilled wrinkles
  Onto the pages
  Crumbling our art work
  Into nothing worth
  Publishing
         I wasn’t asking
  For you to love me
I just wanted you to stay
  The poems we made
  Were extraordinary
  And now our ink
  Has drained
  No words can fix
  The silence concealed
  In the pages
  We’ve never touched
  Your touch
  will always be
  Tattooed in my veins
  The red stains
  You punctured in me
  Will forever sprain
        You walked away
  Now all that’s left
  Is a masterpiece
        With wrinkles and
  Dry spots
  Waiting to be mastered...
