To remember the forgotten, take two deep breaths and a Tylenol

And on that first breath, squeeze your eyes closed
A memory is played behind the eyelids
The sound pumping through black imaginary speakers
Echoing through your skull
Through your eyes
Through your ears
And I can remember him
The dust inside my mind recalls his shape
Twisting, turning, forming

Breathe out the breath of life past
and it tastes like medicine
like a cough drop, blood colored
falling from your tongue
red sickness
warm sickness

The second breath heaves within your lungs like an anvil
A hard, close electric guitar strums
and the bass echoes from your mouth
his fists are clenched
my golden mind sand runs from between his fingers
and drops into the inky nothing below
for a moment, his eyes are on mine
pulsing with dark, glimmering envy

The breath will run from your lips like water
dribble to the ground
fade away like smoke
take a Tylenol or two
and then begin to forget again
