A being, one who held a predominant purpose
Never afraid to tame the water that’s passed India’s surface
His placid approach swayed in the wind from Sabarmati and Dandi’s sea
As his desire to independence grazed on the stitching of his sleeves
He wasn’t a man that lived in substantial glory
But used the powers of nonviolence and truth, proving its superiority
Born from aspects of Hinduism, sent to study aspects of justice
His journey lead him to the power of protest, and in a way of such justness
This realization, advocated after an act of discrimination
By his shade of color, ultimately no act of assimilation
It was carried to him to South Africa as a shape of tranquility
Satyagraha, “steadfastness in truth,” his paradigm to serenity
Allowing individuals to be in the face of evil
In response, only they to be utterly resistant and feeble
Even if his acts were only for the discriminated Indians of the land
It has given a major influence to the mending of other land spans
These nonviolent boycotts have given Ghana the chance to disperse
Away from the taxes Britain has imposed and immersed
He returns to India, only to encounter a massacre from British troops
Influencing him to political protest, fighting for his particular ethnic group
He practiced civil disobedience, giving reformers a new direction to walk,
As the march was worthwhile to the premise of reclaiming their salt,
My soul ascended from the hearts of his following men who were once grim,
India was a gaping crevice, let him coalesce, be the missing shim
His pride and concern has grown to the economically unappreciated,
Placing himself in the soles of a man who, in life, is depreciated
Imprisoned for civility, he still fights with optimism as the only resort,
Hunger strikes, this memorable way of protest in times of desperation, this he purports
Liberty has been lifted to India, as the violent smoke of Britains withered
He held the chalice to immerse this kindling to the other side of the fissure
Ghandi, his heart to his home of India unleashed the province of independence
Next to appear the steps further in ending segregation by his future descendants
