Shine
He kept his eyes fixated
On his clasped hands
As she tiptoed in at eight o’ five,
Slinking into her desk
Behind the professor’s back.
He raised his chin
Just a smidge
To watch her.
Tired, dark circles
Engulfed her eyes.
They thought her jet black curls
Cast a shadow over her,
Shrinking her tiny body
Until it was practically
Unseen.
But he thought she shined brighter
than the most blinding star
in any pitch black sky.
