"Fiction is a lie that tells us true things, over and over again"
-Neil Gaiman

It will never end.
I’m treading water at work
I’m swimming at the bookstore
I’m drowning in my bedroom.
The rain will never end.
The flooding
The mouth
Lapping at my heels, my toes
It’s rushing from underneath the door
A towel will not plug it up-
Out the window, fish laze by.
The rain will never end.
The water’s curious
Strange, familiar
Maybe I like being sad.
Maybe I like drowning.
It’s at my knees.
The damp creeps like tired smoke
Crawling across my walls
Now nipping at my waist
Splashing splashing
Forever more
The rain will never end.
Oh my God the river’s cold
What lurks beneath the surface?
The rain has reached my closet.
My clothes will be ruined.
It’s eating up my shoulders.
The rain will never end.
It is a waterfall in the ears
I cannot hear my scream
Bubbles tumble from my mouth
It’s up- over my head
Breath, what is breath?
Oh God, what God?
My lungs are swollen
I am cold to my foolish bones,
My legs and arms, fingers and toes
So cold, so heavy.
I can’t feel my core
My heart, it’s rubber bands
Snap snap go my heart strings
I’m drowning
My hair is everywhere
Swirling in this eternal downpour.
Help.
Help.
Do you even know?
The rain will never end.

This is what depression feels like. With my depression, it feels like I'm drowning. I tried to describe that in the poem, as well as make it more stressed and frantic twords the end. I hope this is enlightening.
