Momma and PopPop were watching the news today
You know, the one with the nice blonde lady who always looks so sad
And she said that there was a woman
Somewhere in Massachusetts or Maine, somewhere like that,
Who was arrested today for killing her husband
And then they showed a part of a video of this
Very old lady with grey hair and a face as hard as Legos
And she looked very sad too, just like the nice blonde lady
And then the old lady smiled,
Which made her look ten years older somehow
And you could see that her teeth were all yellow and cracked like tombstones
And her eyes looked like they would jump off her face any second
And she kept on saying,
“Either he kills me or I kill him!
It’s a hurt or be hurt world!”
PopPop looked at Momma, and Momma looked at PopPop
PopPop sighed and said something about how the country was getting ridiculous
And Momma sighed too and said something about leaving
And I just watched the nice blonde lady on the television talk about how
The woman who killed her husband said that she didn’t mind going to jail
Because jail was better than living with that man for the rest of her life
And I wondered if the nice blonde lady always looked so sad
Because she grew up to be a reporter
Or because she had to tell the world sad things like that
