I'm not a laughing punchline,
and yet I do ask myself who am I?
Who am I? Am I Korean, or American?
It not as simple as prescribing a medicine,
It's a serious problem of identity
You see, I have a tendency,
To call myself Korean day in and day out
But I'm always, always in doubt,
Because I am genetically Korean
But I was raised American,
I don't even know which country
is truly my home,
It's not just me right? I'm not the
only one that feels alone?
You see, I cant stand to see myself anymore
For who I am,
Because even I
Don't even understand,
Sometimes, I looked at myself
Hating my skin, my food, my land, my body,
and my culture,
Because it brings heartaches and headaches to my future,
At times, I ran away from who I was
At times, I hidden away from who I am
At times, I hated who I become
No, no! I must accept who I am
I am, I am Human!
I love my skin, my food, my land,
and my culture,
I am an individual who loves the past, present,
and future!
I am somebody who loves being different
Because I am Korean American.
