Into Shadow
There’s nothing as indescribable
As watching
The sun set from the air
Above
The white foam of clouds
The river blue of the sky is
Transparent
The rocky bottom visible
Interspersed with grasses
And with pockets of life
Like model railroad trains
The trains always
Chugging through
Gently gasping for breath
Never resting, spokes like clock hands
Spinning spinning
Snug in your seat
Buckled down by your belt
Staring out the window
Eyes fixed
As the sun slipping from
Your clinging gaze
Melts into the murky horizon
Its last fingers of light crumbling
Into the unyielding shadows
