Your head
On my chest,
Listening to
My hummingbird heart,
Our fingers laced together,
Warm against
Each other’s palms.
Smoothing down
Your hair,
Kissing your
Forehead.
I never knew an hour
Could pass by so fast.
And when time caught up to us
As I held you,
Watching the
Creek
Shimmer by,
Leaves carried
Like boats.
Away and out of view.
And then,
Everything happened at once.
Something I wanted
But knew receiving
Would ruin our agreement
To go slow. And then
Your lips
Were on mine
And my heart decided
That it wanted
To be a leaf in the creek
And flow away
From me
And take residence
In you.
For a brief moment
There was nothing
But you
And me
And the blanket
Under my back,
And then we returned.
And I smiled,
Kissing you again
As heat filled every
Cavity of my being,
Eventually falling back
And feeling my insides
Turn to liquid.
I knew it to be true,
Along with another fact:
I wouldn’t trust
Anyone else with
My hummingbird heart.
