If You Really Paid Attention
She knows you wouldn’t understand.
She knows you’d judge her.
She knows you wouldn’t offer the comfort she wants, the comfort only she can offer herself.
She knows you wouldn’t care, so she keeps it inside.
This is where it eats her alive.
Some days she’s okay, happy even. But other days she sees a picture and all the memories come roaring back, and she gets pushed under.
These are the days she gets quiet, reserved, and isolated. You think she’s stressed, but in reality her heart is so strained from the distance between him and her she can’t take it.
She gets quiet and misses him silently, but if you really paid attention you’d see it.
You’d notice it, but the fact is that you don’t.
So she silently suffers, knowing no one notices.
So next time a picture of him flashes across her screen look into her eyes and you’ll see the truth as she closes the lid of her computer to keep that picture of him away from her.
