The Optimist-Turned-Pessimist-Turned-Realistic-Optimist
I consider myself as an optimist,
or actually an optimist-turned-pessimist-turned-realistic-optimist.
I had the most imaginative and creative dreams
until 8th grade, until I was bombarded
with a constant flow of negative language.
“Don’t be naive!” they would criticize.
The first few times, I fought back.
The next few times, I turn my head around.
The last time, I look at them
straight in the eye and nod.
And slowly, I came to the realization
of the truth: it is not a pretty world anymore.
