“You write beautifully. The inside of your mind must be a terrible place.”

Bluer than blue skies
Sent puffed-up clouds scrambling
As the vibrance of the trees
Reflected off the bright grass.

We dove into the wind,
Expecting a much lovelier effect
Than what we received;
We craved a solution.

Separately, we’d both agreed
That the close of our final season of freedom
Begged for answers from the shadows
That wouldn’t reveal themselves.

Maybe, we’d thought,
The raging sun could force them,
Push them, from hiding
And into our desperate hands.

Neither of us knew how
To handle the weight
Of responsibility, expectations, maturity,
But we hiked the hill with them on our backs.

When we slipped or stumbled,
Her hands in mine and my hands in her’s,
Were all that could catch us
And help manage our burdens.

And when the mountain peaked,
We sat on its edge in awe
And silently questioned the view
When our answers would come out.

But as our laughter continued,
And our voices calmed the internal panic,
The sky expanded further,
And we finally saw

All we need is each other.
