Dancer
On the stage she is home.
Twirling, jumping, rolling.
Each step a number in the combination to her heart.
By the end of the dance her heart has opened,
And the lava inside is so hot it must be shared.
It gushes onto the stage,
blows towards her parents in a kiss
And illuminates her journey off the stage
into the dark wing.
In ten years time her smile has faded
And the lava in her chest has hardened.
Her veins became chasms,
her eyes crystallized.
And the ease of her steps has changed.
She is struggling to step through stone
and the memories of that first performance fade further and further away.
