Deepest Well

O LORD, Thou art the deepest well
Springing forth from eternity
All want and desire Thou fulfilleth
And provide for my ere’ need

All my dreams and all my plans
I lay them at Thy feet
Take my love and make it Thine
So that I might be more like thee

To all those who search in want
And fulfillment thou cannot find
Look to none other than the Lamb
Past the world’s empty lies

These lies of pleasure and contentment
Do not sustain, they come and fade away
Leaving broken hearts and lives
To all who art lead astray

Find the Good Shepherd, the LORD
He will take you to His waters still
Where your heart will be at peace
Your soul will find its everlasting fill

Pilgrim, thirst no longer, take and drink
So Thine longing will be quenched finally
No matter the severity of your drought
His well runs deep enough to satisfy thee

well, thank you, I appreciate that... but you should get back into the faith! Just like the poem says, no matter how deep of need you have, God can fulfill it:)

It takes a lot of courage to show your dreams to someone else - Erna Bombeck

In three words i can sum up everything I've learned in life: it goes on -Robert Frost

Live, Love, Laugh - ______

Hope, Love, breathe <3 - Me

i like it, i'm not really a religious person (used to be but not anymore) but i still like the way you have a lot of faith and that shows a lot in the poem, good job :)

That song most likely from Scripture, though. I just found out it's from a the hymn "The Sands of Time are Sinking," by Samuel Rutherford. The entire song is wonderful, like drinking from God's peace. It's based on Psalms 36:9: "For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light." Pretty cool, huh?

Thank you very much! Well, this poem was inspired by an old hymn I read in this book called Passion and Purity by Elisabeth Elliot (Jim Elliot's widow.) It's about how God can fulfill every single need you have, and the words really inspired me: "O Christ, He is the fountain/ The deep, sweet well of love/ The streams on Earth I've tasted/ More deep I'll drink above/ There to an ocean fullness/ His mercy doth expand/ And glory, glory dwelleth/ In Immanuel's Land! This hymn is extremely inspiring:)

Was this based off of a psalm from the Bible? If so, which one? I like it very much. What I appreciate about your works is that they are always encouraging and pure. :) Amen!
