I wrote my last goodbye note and slipped it under your door

You just wrote me off

It was hot and miserable, but the way you loved me was heavy in the air

Not like It’d ever left quite yet

The way you intertwined your fingers in mine kept me up at night

If only you’d whispered ‘I love you’ into my ear at the last second

If only you’d meant it

Splashing secrets onto your shimmering body like the waves crashing onto rocky shorelines

Best ex friends, better off dead than as lovers til the very end

Were too young, too dumb to understand ‘forever’ comes to an end

Summers on its deathbed once again

The calendar is falling from the wall

You’re sunk in my head once again

Give me the strength to evict you from behind my eyelids

I have yet to feel your midnight love notes soaking my consciousness

To be racing through the city with windows down, deep blue skies falling from so high

I’m sorry my moods flicker on and off like you playing with a lighter

Lying down on your back in the grass, sunlight sinking into your skin

But now there's too many ‘what if’s’ to count

You’ll always be my favorite one

I’m once again forgetting what winter ever meant to you

Long years slipped away under the false pretenses of revival

Lovers better off as ex-friends
