Promise You'll Never Know
I’m so tired of fighting
We’ve been going at this for so long
We’ve been tearing at each other
We don’t even remember what’s wrong.
You yell and throw me dirty looks
And you’ve beaten me around a time or two
But no matter the stuff you do to me
I still waist my time with you.
I promised to not let you win
I promised to not let you go
I promised to be your friend to the end
But that’s a promise you’ll never know.
It doesn’t matter if you loved me
Or if we cared for one another
Doesn’t matter if you left
And found yourself a new lover.
You can beat me down, you can scream
You can hate me to the end
You can do whatever you want
I swore to be your friend.
I promised to not let you win
I promised to not let you go
I promised to be your friend to the end
But that’s a promise you’ll never know.
I stand back and watch you and her
Come to think about it, I promised someone I knew
You two look so much a like
I made the promise to the old you.
You’ve changed so much, it makes me sad
You’ve changed to someone new, all for her
You’re a totally knew person, not the one from before
I miss my friend from before her.
But no matter who you’ve become
You’re still him, some where inside
And maybe if I try
I can find where you reside.
And I promised not to let you win
I promised to not let you go
I promised to be your friend to the end
But that’s a promise you’ll never know.
No, no matter how much I want to
That’s a promise you’ll never know.
