Worth the Same

Two people, different color and name

Such friends there never were before

Until they saw they weren’t the same

And thought that one must be worth more.

An argument was what ensued

And this was always their reply,

“If you don’t think I’m better than you,

You must think yourself higher than I.”

And since then, several mediators

Have tried to make this tension fade,

But thinking one had to be greater

Dismantled any progress made.

So gentles all, I’m sad to say

They quickly became enemies

They haven’t spoken since that day

And all because they didn’t see

That despite their color, gender, or name,

In God’s eyes, they were worth the same.

All the racial tensions in our country really upset me, so I wanted to write about it. I wanted to establish that no one is worth any more or less because of their name, their gender, or their color.
