A Cruel Trick of Light
Like a rainbow through the prism,
A cruel trick of light latched onto by the mind
Can be twisted any which way:
A single, straight beam refracted
Into a thousand visages on shattered glass.
Like an army of knives they assault
These bright gelatinous, cerebral folds–
Death comes by a thousand cuts.
Memory is made of this–
Jello-fied perception and pain,
Stitched together, jiggling in their domain
But in this mirage, translated sans delay,
Lost is that single cruel crystal ray.
