The Mask
They think they know who I am,
and exactly what I'll be.
They see the side I only expose,
instead of seeing the "real me".
But everything I hide away,
is hidden behind a mask.
Every feeling, thought, and smile
has been buried with my past.
So I put on my fake face,
and steady my broken voice.
I transform myself into a monster
and I do it without a choice.
My smile has no feeling
and my eyes are only hollow.
My sunshine has been chased away,
and the darkness is all I follow.
But one of these days I'll break free,
and they won't now me anymore!
They'll finally see the honest smile
that they haven't seen before.
And then I will leave them all behind
as I find myself that day.
I will be myself again,
when the mask finally goes away.

Hey,
My name is Rachel and I'm from Dublin, Ireland. I really loved your poem and decided I wanted to do it for my drama exam. Unfortunately, my teacher wants me to know the author of the poem. I was just wondering if there would be any chance that I could get your name ( I would really appreciate it)!
By the way your poem was assessed externally, and they loved it! Well done ;)
