Masks
I keep them next to my hats on their hooks
 For all occasions I have a false face
 My great collection of synthetic looks
 Every mask on the rack has its own place
 Sometimes life feels like a masquerade ball
 You know only what a person tells you
 The truth with their heart stays hidden from all
 Behind fragile masks souls are hidden from view
 In every grown body there’s a small child
 With a pretty, glass heart pinned to her sleeve
 A heart that sparkles when weather is mild
 But would shatter if this sweet calm did leave
 For this reason we lock our hearts away
 And put elaborate masks on display
