Sunless South
Behind these walls, winds collide
Omniscient clouds paint the heavens with gray,
Dew glows on grass like jewels, and the breeze whistles outside,
The elder adjusts his hearing aid, trying to listen to what they say
Fierce, yet mesmerizing winds blow through,
Making the hands of trees shake in terror as they pound
Owls living in the trees ask, "Who is blowing? Who? Who?"
In frustration, squirrels hurl acorns to the ground
Along the neighborhood, dogs bark,
Causing cats to hiss and cry
The earth is waking, but the atmosphere is dark
Today, the sun is shielded by the jealous clouds of the sky
The folks living beneath yearn for sun
Because to southerners, with no sun, the day ain't no fun
