Grandfather Clock
The grandfather clock sung for four loud times.
On the first, she with her moon-light arms left,
Looking o'er the gate beside the laze kine.
In the night, waiting for a secret theft.
On the second, it was he who arrived.
With the stars as bear witness to their acts.
The boy concocted, constructed, contrived,
As he moved onto the horse with their packs.
On the third, the man woke during the night.
He emerged toward the divulging window.
From there he saw his daughter in the light,
And his mirth suffered a sudden winnow.
On the fourth, they both smiled--bittersweet,
Before dead silence was heard on Main Street.
