Once more into the Fray,
To the last good fight I'll ever know,
Live and die on this day,
Live and die on this day,

There was a God in the bullet,

There was a God in the trigger,

There was a God in the finger that'd pull it,

But there was no God in her,

Like a star through the night sky it sailed,

And all mortals shook in it's wake,

For that bullet sounded like a thunder bolt unveiled,

And pierced her heart like a holy stake,

The shot wasn't meant for her,

But no one else would try a God controversy,

At last the thought occured to stir,

That God was in this dying mercy,

The author's comments:

I do not believe in God, and this sonnet isn't about God. This is about the acceptance of the absurd, and the almost godly power that the absurd has over our lives. This poem leaves the victim of the absurd powerless until the very end where she meets the only fate we all share. Death.
