Leaving Paradise By: Simine Elkeles
Leaving Paradise, Two teens Caleb and Maggie life have changed after a horribly accident had happen in their life changes completely. Reading each chapter got me imaging both maggie and caleb heads seeing what they both thought of the same situation. We begin with a “hero” caleb being released from jail. He’s spent a year locked up in juvenile detention for hitting Maggie with his car while being drunk and him leaving the scene . He had paid his dues through and is no longer the carefree popular teen that went away . All he really wants now is to go home and resume his life and turn back time. With time getting released comes a rule though like 150 hours of community service, meeting with a transition counselor and staying out of trouble. Maggie join her physical therapy exercising her shattered leg and preparing to go back to school, the only thing that gets her through the day is her scholarship to spain . Since the accident she’s no longer one of the popular kids, they all think shes a freak now and Maggie can't wait to get out of her town because of all the people hating, whispers and stars they give her she has a terrible limp .
After all the circumstance Maggie takes a job as a companion for an old guy Mrs.Reynolds, she also just hired Caleb through his community service. Caleb family is really not supportive his sister is a “ goth ghost”, his mother acts like nothing has happened to his own son and doesn't really care what's going on his life .
Maggie and Caleb have gotten a bond together by the tragedy yet forbidden by their parents and a court order to be together a friendship begins quickly developing into something neither of them had ever expected. The ending is going to have you shook your probably some tears are going to come out . When two people are forced to be together again after that one fateful night, how will they deal with the guilt and anxiety of trusting each other after Caleb ruined everything with Maggie.
