EL Norte

EL Norte a movie made in the 1984 showed the amount of effort people put in to cross the border and get to their dreams.  A Guatemalan brother and sister named Rosa and Enrique.  Enrique a worker for the government along with his dad who also worked for the coffee picking as well would then try to rebel against the government.  Enrique and Rosa would then lose all their family and friends.  Enrique and Rosa would then have to travel North due to fear or getting killed.  Enrique and Rosa will have to cross two borders, the border to Mexico and the border to the United states.  Having there struggles while making and also getting tricked once by a coyote.  Enrique and Rosa finally make it to the U.S.A going through the tunnel and getting attacked by many rats. Then proceeding to their dreams and goals “The American Dream”.

The setting is so good for the movie as the people actually go to the areas to film in Mexico Tijuana and how it actually looked like back then.  They also went to film in Guatemala and showed how it looks like in Enriques home and the overall little village.  They filmed in the U.S.A where they actually show us how Los Angeles is like and the types of homes or refugees they have in Los Angeles.  They would show us how certain people cross the border from mexico to the United States and how immigrants would get jobs.  They would also show us how I.C.E or I.N.S used to dress and how they would deport people.

The actors David Villalpando and Zaide Silvia who play as Enrique and Rosa actually showed us emotions during the movie.  They showed us how even though ur going through rough times you still have to push through and move on as how they showed us when all of their friends and family died.  They showed the type of change they had to make between the way a guatemalan talked and the way a mexican talked and then into the way americans speak.  Enrique had to change the most as he didn't have help from someone like Rosa.  Enrique had the confidence and excitement to work for any job and was offered a green card but didn't take it because that would mean he would leave his sister.  Enrique had that type of bond with his sister where if he does something he then adds rosa in to it and sees what it would be like with her and if it would affect her.

“EL Norte”, the word that comes up the most refers to “a better life” in this movie.  Enrique and Rosa go so far into it that they even decide to sell their moms jewels for money to cross the mexican border.  On the way their there is a lot of signs that tell you when something big or important is going to happen.  In this case it's the ‘circles” the circles show us that something important is going to happen either a good thing or a bad thing.  Some points it will bring up the past when they lived in Guatemala.  When it seems like everything is going good for them the circle comes around and makes the scene more dramatic or to go down hill again.

I recommend this movie to people who are interested in the topic of immigrants and dont understand it clearly.  I recommend this movie to people who believe that immigrants just come and ruin this country and the people who believe that immigrants are nothing but criminals.  People will need to see how immigrants go through rough times to get a better life to just find a better place to live in.

Movies about immigration matter because they got their own little bumpy roads in them.  We will all learn from it because we have all been immigrants before just like them unwanted.
