Fireflies-chapter II
Fel
Fireflies. That’s what we are.
Kids. Just kids, the two of us. Me, I’m twelve. My brother is fourteen.
We’re just kids.
But we’re Fireflies, and that’s why the Halflord wants us dead.
Fireflies. I should explain, now shouldn’t I.
Nobody really knows why we are called Fireflies, but I suspect that somebody brought up a rumor that we could glow as well as our other power. The power of time.
Time, you heard me. We can only warp it certain ways, but it’s different than you might expect.
We can’t see the future. Nor can we control it. But we can warp the past in any way we wish.
With our minds.
And that’s why the Halflord wants us.
Halflord. The name makes me shiver.
He is nineteen years old, half man, half Lord of Destruction, hence the name. He wants us back. He found us, wanted to use us for his own purposes. To change the past, to warp it so that he did not have to rule over only a small part of Alisor, but instead to rule over Alisor, Dreyeken, and Gravenorth. Ruling these, he would control all of this world, the world known as Addrakon.
I cannot sleep, not right now. The Halflord’s men may have yet survived. I don’t want to die in my sleep.
If I have to die, then dangit, I’m not dying in my sleep, weak, unarmed and defenseless. I’m going down fighting, and I’ll make sure that I’m dead before the Halflord takes me back.
I know that I will not be able to sleep, so I sit on a branch and watch as the moon rises, and a night chill settles over the forest.
