Is It Even A Problem?
Who doesn't want to live in a poor area where the school system is not funded enough? Who wouldn't want to receive unequal education because of their financial status? Is this even a problem? “On average, low-income students are two years behind in learning compared with financially better off students of the same age.” Fair School Funding and Equal Opportunities (Page 1). Maybe the school system isn't the problem, maybe it's the student’s parents. If their parents made more money, then we wouldn't have to worry about supplying the school with funding from the government.
I believe that if students live in a low-income area, that can't afford to fund the school, the students should not get schooling. If money was not wasted on low-income schools, then the high-income schools would be better and provide those students with a better education. These students are the ones that can afford college. Those that live in low-income areas most likely can not afford college and will end up taking a loan, which is more money from the government. If these low-income students didn't go to school they would end up working the same minimum wage job without wasting money.
The school I go to is funded therefore this makes me exempt from this thought. I also believe that in lower-income areas the age for work should be lowered. Maybe the children can try to get themselves out of the area and get schooling. The parents should be made to work more shifts to make money for the schools if they were to attempt to send their child to school. Parents should be made to pay to send their children to school with more privileged students. Being in a classroom with someone whose family is poor may distract the students from their schoolwork, so the school would have to build a separate classroom to accommodate.
The poor students are suppressing the learning of those who can afford to get a better job than just minimum wage. These children are a burden to the government and the community around them. They are keeping the economy from getting better and are holding their fellow students back. Education doesn't matter when these students aren't going to use it. Why waste time, money, and the success of others for these children.
The tax dollars that people are paying are going to schools to help children in poor areas, but why not use it for something better? Why waste hundreds of thousands of dollars on a cause that is so obviously unimportant. We could be using this money to build better shopping centers or to make good schools, better. These children shouldn't be treated above all else when there are bigger matters at hand. Why should financially stable people have to deal with this inequality?
In conclusion, we shouldn't give these children opportunities to change their life and help them achieve their dreams. We should be worrying about the children whose education is affected by having someone less fortunate and willing to learn in their class. We should acknowledge that this is not a big enough problem to worry about. These children should be treated differently just as their parents are, and don't deserve a second chance. Who doesn't want to live in a poor area where the school system is not funded enough?
