Name essay
In english my name is calming. It is the type of calm you get looking at the ocean. Swaying in a hammock while listening to the waves crash onto shore. It’s like the color blue. Not sadness but quite the opposite. Like on vacation. Sipping a drink, relaxing, and realizing that what you have in life makes you happy.
My name has no family origin. Mom says right when I was born they knew me to be a Matthew. I would have liked my name to come from an ancestor. I always like hearing about names with origins. Not only does it tell you something interesting about your name, but it could tell something about your personality also.
Saying my name is smooth. Smooth, like the ocean on a windless day. No waves. The name sounds like it looks. Smooth transition from reading it, to saying it. The name matches my personality. Smooth and relaxed. I perform very well under pressure. Looking like I am not struggling at all.
Sometimes people call me Matt. Matt is not the same. Matt seems urgent. Like the color red. Not relaxed like Matthew. Not blue. Matt is a lack of depth. Matt is the desert. Red. Flat. You see everything right away. Not much else to discover. Matthew adds the depth, like something is hiding and the deeper you dig the better. Matt is shallow. Like a person who was never fully developed. This is not me. It does not fit.
Matthew, like an oasis. The deep blue water, clear with lots beneath the surface. From the top you can see the initial beauty. The water, how the sun reflects off. However the deeper you go the more lively it gets. Iridescent sunfish, reflecting the water’s tints off of their glimmering scales. Lively clownfish hiding in anemone. Stingray gliding over sand bars. Also different aspects. The jagged edges of rocks for example.
From the surface you see a person who is calm and relaxed. My name is Matthew. Deep like the ocean. Pure like the clear blue of the ocean. I own it. It fits me perfectly. I love it.
