Interconnectedness
Have you ever wondered about what it would be like without the media keeping us informed? Social media keeps us connected by ways that we’ve taken for granted. Back in the day, it would take months for news to travel from the west coast to the north, but now it literally takes seconds. Our ways of sharing information have changed drastically but will they still be the same in the future?
Today’s media helps us perceive how we view the world and keeps us united. Television, radios, movies, books, newspapers and the Internet are our main sources of news and general information. Those things shape how we view and react to things that occur in our daily lives. Without them, we would be clueless as to what would be occurring in the world.
The other day, I was trying to remember when social media came into my life. I actually don’t remember though. It feels as if it’s been there my whole life. There’s never been an instance where I didn’t know anything but as I start thinking about if anyone else isn’t connected, I think of my great grandparents or just old people in general. They’re both around 80 years old and only know how to use a TV.
I wanted to find a way to help them stay connected to everyone. I could teach them how to use a phone but they would forget it as soon as I told them about it (trust me I’ve tried). Thinking of the limited possibilities I had in the matter, I thought of a better idea. What if we literally connected them to the internet?
The elderly have always struggled with keeping up with modern trends. This way is a more effective way of keeping everyone connected together, right? There’s no way possible that they couldn’t be connected if they actually had a cord attached to them connecting them to social media or just the internet in general. I mean unless they unplugged it but I doubt they could figure out how to or even realize it’s there in the first place.
In conclusion, if we brought my plan to action there’s no possible way that no one wouldn’t know what’s happening in the world. We could even recycle old plastics to make the cords that attach them to the internet. Killing two birds with one stone, you know?

My name is Liliana and I am a freshman in highschool. I'm 14 years old and my AP Prep English teacher told me to submit this here along with 2 other sites. I hope my narrative essays sparks interest in whoever is reading it. Just in case you didn't know, this essay is entirely satirical. None of these things are meant to be true...unless?
