The Joy of Helping Others
Throughout the past few years, I have spent time helping others who are in situations less fortunate than mine. I have volunteered, organized, and carried out many different events and activities to help other people. Seeing the joy, smiles, and words of thanks makes everything all worth it. The moment in time where you can see you are making a difference with your one valuable life.
In the sixth grade, I got involved in a club called See The Need, Take The Lead. This club was all about helping others and supporting those who are less fortunate than ourselves. At first, I was not sure what to do, I wanted to help, but did not know how. My peers and I worked outside of club meetings coming up with ideas. We had finally decided on doing a bake sale during the PSSA’s so students could get a nice treat before taking a long test. Our next issue was where should the funds go? We had many non-profit organizations that would have been great, but we decided on the Ronald McDonald House Charity. The next step was planning; this seemed like such a challenge and so much work for no reason, but then the day came. Many faculty members and students brought treats and once it was over we counted the money and we had made over a hundred dollars for the charity! One of the representatives from the charity came to collect the check. He told us his story of why he is involved and all the great things the Ronald McDonald House Charity does for families. It made me so happy that I chose, right then, I wanted to be in the club for the rest of my middle school years.
As I continued through the club, my peers and I helped many other causes through stall days, drives, car washes, assistance programs, field trips, and a backpack program. I loved doing this so much I continued into high school by joining a different group called the Impact Foundation, and so far I am loving it! Helping others is such a big part of my life, and I love seeing the joy and gratitude others feel when something they were struggling with is recognized and assisted. Even though I sometimes get too involved, overwhelmed, and don’t succeed, I keep continuing to try and make a difference by helping others.
I feel as though there would be more suffering in the world if we just ignored those who are struggling and in situations less fortunate than our own. I know that everyone can always make a difference whether it is to a friend who is struggling or helping a worldwide problem. Staying involved and helping others, seeing the joy and thankfulness makes helping others all worth it. I believe in helping others.

This piece was part of an English assignment. For the assignment we had to write about something we believe and a story behind why we have that belief. I hope you enjoy!
The picture is from the first trip taken with the club to a group that helps provide food to those in need. I am the person on the right; to the left of me is a peer and friend who also volunteered during this activity.
