Ways that I make a difference: essay contest
What have I done to make a difference? Well, in the grand scheme of things, not much. But I do try when I can! My brother struggles with keeping his emotions in check sometimes and whenever that happens, and he is irrationally thinking, I go to him and talk to him about random things. I ask him what he thinks tofu is made of, or I tell him about my day. Anything really, if it distracts him enough to call him down and help him think more clearly. I try to keep our water usage down and almost always turn off all the lights before exiting a room. When my church has a charity event to gather donations for the Utah Food Bank or other charities, I always try to come or contribute in one way or another. I make brownies for when a new neighbor moves in and I babysit the neighbor's kids when they need a night out. When my (recently divorced) mom/dad needs help to watch my younger brothers, I do that. When I see the kitchen or family room is messy, I tidy that up. I make my brothers food when they're hungry and aren’t able to make it themselves. I always try. Now, there are times when I forget or am distracted by my own personal life and my own desires. But I do try. And sometimes, making a difference starts with just trying. Trying is the start of becoming better. Not perfect, but better. I am trying to improve my writing by entering this contest. And one day, I hope to impact at least one person's life with my writing.

Sooo for some annoying reason, I can't see any of the options for the "click here to select an image" so here's hoping the picture I chose is relevant to my submission. Also, this is my first TeenInk contest submission so I'm excited to see how well I do.
