Don’t Rush Waiting for Gadot

When I was younger my Dad told me about the story of Waiting for Gadot. I had always heard the story but, hearing something and understanding something are completely different. In short the story revolved around two men, waiting for Gadot, who never arrives. I constantly wonder when Gadot is coming, is there even a Gadot to be waiting for?

I am a freshman in highschool. I have numerous aspirations and ambitions yet, I still don’t see Gadot coming anytime soon. I need a sign before I make a decision. I am hopeless knowing in the back of my mind that won’t happen. I have planned my life and my upbringing was a part of that, but that’s not supposed to happen. I am a freshman, and I planned my life when I have barely lived.

I have planned my life for sure, however the difference I have made is minimal. I haven’t done anything substantial to change the world around me. Even though the world around me is not a world I love or am proud to be a part of. I haven’t made a difference in the world, but I want to. This world is forever changing and I want to make change in the right direction.

There is joy in waiting for Gadot. Not knowing what you want your future should be accepted and not changed. Nevertheless there is still a change to be made. A change I will commit myself to make, what that is also uncertain. Let us wait with joy and anticipation, but not stress and anxiety. Let Gadot come closer and closer or maybe don’t even wait for Gadot at all. Gadot is going to stroll by one way or another: don’t make him come earlier than he has to, but like Gadot the difference I’ll make is going to come. The future is not definite, and the future remains uncertain. The change is uncertain but I guarantee it is definite.

This piece is about a struggle I've had as I watch all my friends in my school achieve all these things in our community.
