It's a Girl
The day my parents told me I would have another baby sibling I wished for it to be a little boy. I dreamed of playing with cars and trucks and showing him how to be respectful to everyone. I needed a change in my life and by already having a little sister, a little brother would be perfect. To me, it would make our family complete.
The 20-week mark of my mom's pregnancy journey came around fast. The thought of knowing the gender of my little sibling would itch in the back of my mind all the time.
“You girls are going to Mami’s house while I have my doctor's appointment,” my mom said as she pushed us out the door. What felt like hours went by and my mom finally came to tell us all the news. To my surprise, she was carrying a tray of cupcakes.
“Do you want a cupcake?” she asked.
Praying I would see blue frosting in the middle my mom starts to count down.
“1…2…3!”
My sister and I take a bite of the cupcake. Pink frosting reveals itself from the fluffy cupcake. A girl. My heart stung. My dreams of having a baby brother were shattered. But, my sad dreary feelings disappeared like the speed of light. I was beyond excited to have another baby sister. I remember the look on my mom's face when she saw a tear of happiness run down my face. I remember the high-pitched giggles from my family. I remember the amount of love doubled by all the joy this gift would bring us. I would be able to show her how to put on makeup, what outfit is the cutest, show her how to do her hair, and be her role model.
I realized that having a baby brother wouldn't have made my family complete but having a baby sister would.
