Opposites Attract
I met my best friend when I was twelve. We were so different but yet so similar. Her dad was in jail and it seemed my dog had a problem with that.
My accounting assignment was sitting right on the table staring me in the eye and my best friend Esther was on her phone. “Are you done with your homework”; I ask. “No, we’ll do it together, tell me when you're ready to do the assignment”. I tell her to come do her work, but she says she is talking to someone about something important. I see her on the phone with her mom texting her that she was allowed to stay the night at my place, and I scream. She only sleeps when the room is as cold as liquid nitrogen, and I don’t wanna deal with that, so I hit her on the head with a pillow and run out the room only to bump into my mom and come back to my senses.
“Go to bed honey you have school tomorrow remember”; my mom says as she goes into her room. I was a freshman in high school and Esther had moved to another state a year ago. I missed her so much. She kinda reminded me of pasta because she hated it so much and I loved it. Her name even rhymes with pasta. We were so different but we both enjoyed each other's company and personality.
She hated pasta, I liked pasta. She hated reading, I loved reading, she hated swimming, I loved swimming and she hated animals, I loved animals. But she loved my dog, only after two weeks of begging her to pet my dog did she love him. My dog loved her but didn’t like her dad because I guess he smelt danger. Her father was not dangerous at all. He was a wealthy businessman who was framed for money laundering. He is on his way to rebuilding his company in a different state far away from where I live which is part of the reason they moved. Her father usually came into our house from time to time to pick up Esther and sometimes bought things for me and my siblings.
Sometimes similarities/differences affect our relationships positively or negatively. Some people are really close to those who have similar interest, and some are close to those who have different interest.
Although our families were very different, we loved each other and always found a way to get along and make things work. We went to barbecues, buffets and amusement parks together like we were all a family. Her father usually didn’t come with us but sometimes he would. She was an only child and I was the second of four so I guess that contributed to the reason we were so close. I was still really close to my siblings but we had a unique connection and for some reason us being different made that stronger. But as my mom always says, “it doesn’t matter the differences, what matters is the ability to maintain relationships based on those difference or similarities”.

This piece is more like a personal writing about the relationship I had with my best friend a few years back. We still keep in touch but not as much as we did when we were closer to each other.
