Freshman year in high school I was given the opportunity to travel to Chicago to learn more about art, and French culture. Being new to the language, it was a no brainer–this opportunity was meant for me.

The 2 hour bus ride was full of excitement and nerves, no one there did not know what to expect for our upcoming 8 hour trip in an unfamiliar city.

Arriving, the first thing we learned how to do was make nutella and butter crepes while talking about the baking and cooking culture.

It was interesting, learning more about a country so far away from home. Learning about this language is like painting a picture–trying to understand the meaning while piecing together the meaning.

Walking like peas in a pod, the group strolled up to an old time cinema, “The Monster in Paris” was playing, the only thing that hit was the music, La Seine; which is about confidence overflowing like a river.

The part that changed me the most, was the Art Institute of Chicago, viewing all the different art pieces while learning about the meaning behind each and every one of them was eccentric

Last but not least was the outdoor market–being mid December towards Christmas, the spirits were high and the lights were shining like heaven. The different vendors showing their pride possessions for sale and the smells of delicious baguettes hit me like a brick wall.
