The First Practice
It all started by me getting into the car. Once I got there I was nervous, the fields were as green as a lime. The goals were set up nice and the sidelines were perfect. When I got out of the car everyone came out of there cars. There were a lot of new faces but there was only one person that I knew…. my cousin who is like a brother to me.
We all got together and joined as a group. My dad was the main coach and he had an assistant coach, Mr.Wieringa and his son would be my friend later in time.
My dad told us, “ Hello guys, how are you, Thanks for coming to practice today.”
Everyone responded with different answers. We were asked to introduce ourselves to three other kids and tell them what we liked to do. I thought to myself that, “ That I could really make some cool friends and some really good soccer players.” The kids I had talked to was this kid named Ty, I asked a few questions, “ Hey, what’s your name and what do you like to do?” he responded with, “ my names Ty and I like to play soccer, ‘ your name?” Then I responded with “ my names Hugo and I like to play soccer to.” we would’ve talked longer but then we had to switch to the next partner. The second kid was this girl named Abi, she asked in a kind of snotty way, “ my names Abi what’s yours?” I replied with, “ my names Hugo and I like to play soccer what do you like to do?” but then she didn’t respond back to me so then we switched one last time. But then a kid who would soon in time be my best friend, he had a squeakier voice “ Hi! my names Patrick I like to play soccer and ride my skateboard and who are you?” he asked “ Hi, i’m Hugo and I like to play soccer too.” I replied. Later in time Patrick would be my best friend and till this day he still is my best friend.
I then thought to myself” wow there are some really cool kids here but I really didn’t like that Abi girl she was kinda rude to me.”
“Everyone please have a group of three and pass the ball to each other.” coach ordered.
After about ten minutes he showed us how to pass the ball to one another. It was hard for me at first, but after a couple tries I got the hang of it. The process of these drills were as hard as a baby starting to walk. My dad showed us plenty of drills like zig zags through cones, shooting the ball and lastly how to shoot the ball. After practice he told everyone.
“Thank you everyone for coming to my training, I am very glad to know that I will have successful players.”
After practice I realized that my dad was a great father/coach.
It was really tiring, after practice basically I went home and went to bed. After many years my dad continued coaching soccer. He has been offered many opportunities, coaching for high school and also being able to coach the 12th team in the state and I’m very blessed to be able to call him my father and coach.
