Touch her Shoulder

My heart flutters like a humming bird in a cage
I felt as if I were center stage in on of the toughest acts there is
I can only stare at the landscape before me
I see the many hills that rolled, twisted, and turned
I yearn for somewhere else to be
Anywhere but here

Towards the starting line I am steered
The shine of sky shown in streaks through the clouds
Making trails in the small cracks that weaved through them
I hear no sounds
I feel the stealth in being in, and although small, crowd of people waiting for that one signal that would send us into frenzy of colors

I spend the remaining fifteen seconds breathing
The cold air makes an icy trail down my throat
My heart races and my stomach drops
I force it to stop and get into position
I stretch and hear my joints pop
The count down begins

10… My stomach leaves me
9… I see red
8… My legs fill with lead
7… I ganna throw up
6… Everything is silent
Not a sound is made
5… BANG!!!

My heart leaps as I push myself forward along with the flow
I know the race has started but it still hasn’t registered yet
There is no emotion in my face shown
It never does until the second loop
I shoot forward passing girls as I go by
I have a feeling of fly as the wind scoops me up
I’m weightless

But that only lasts so long before my muscles begin scream
Cold air fills my already icy lungs making my breath come in short gasps
As I make my final lap I feel trapped in my pain
I want to stop
But forward I strain
Not giving it another thought
My body begged for me to stop as my legs burned like fire
I was tiring quickly and my breath gets caught
But I the energy I sire
But I am almost there
My body fills with the familiar tingle of desire
One more hill I think as I stare

My legs shake in protest as I sprinted with everything I got
My lungs feel as if they are about to combust out of my chest
My adrenaline is shot
Am I up to the test?
I see my coach cheering me on telling me to keep going
Do your best and forget the rest

A new fire is lit in my soul
I can do this
I am the one in control
I see the finish line only yards away along with another runner
I run down the hill like a gazelle
My legs leaping rather than running covering as much ground as I can

I push forward and see Spider on the sidelines
TOUCH HER SHOLDER!
A smile shines my face as I find a trace of strong will
I can still beat her
Everything is quiet
It seems as if all the people and cheering just melt away

The finish line lay before me
I see my shot
One last kick
I run with everything I’ve got
I pass her and she jumps
I hear the rhythmic thump of my heart

I made it.
