Upon one wintry midnight

Allie made an excellent insight

To the feelings and thoughts

Of her precious dolly “Dot”

She left her doll outside today

And in the midst of frolic and play

Forgot to take her back inside

The doll upon which she relied

To go the night without her Dot

Was a most unbearable horrid thought!

And so she faced her deepest fears

And held back many a wind-driven tear

To yonder yard outside she crept

And hoped her doll had not yet wept

The doll the rag so far out of reach!

A lesson the doll would Allie teach

Cold and bitter and hopeless she seemed

If only this incident she had just dreamed!

Allie passed, to much our grief

Like a fighting, fighting withered leaf

What a pitiful way to go!

Never should another travel so.

Wow, Abigail! The syntax and words you used are not a very popular style these days, but you did a great job with it. I always notice poets' rhythm because that's what I suck at, and you did an excellent job with that, along with your rhyming. I think this is the first poem of yours I read. Excellent job!
