You are the giant oak tree
You are the giant oak tree
Of my backyard.
Your shade is like an umbrella
Blocking out the blinding sun.
Your arms look like the eerie
twisting branches,
Strangling the leaves to death.
Your trunk is a hollow
Bottomless pit absorbing
Anything it can get.
When the acorns fall,
They rain down to feed the wildlife.
The gray cracked bark is like
Your old aging skin.
In the fall when all of
The leaves turn brown and
Fall off the branches, it reminds
Me of your gray, thinning hair.
The only thing holding you up
Is your dying roots, grasping the earth for
Support. Someday, you will surely fall.
