Fear
The darkness writhes and pulses, erratically
To a jarring beat that cannot be heard
But can be felt when the soul shakes in fear
It grates painfully on bones
And decays the mind
Until it swallows the pallid corpse
Into its shadowy depths
One can see remnants of a body:
A splintered bone, or a bloody tooth
But only for a moment
Before the blackness devours the flash
Of crimson and white
One can also hear echoes of anguished cries
And may hesitate for a moment
Wipe cold sweat from the forehead
And control trembling hands
But the darkness seizes its chance
The body crumples to the ground, lifeless
Its screams join the laments of the damned
