I Too Often Disappoint You
I too often disappoint you
I talk back and I act cruel
But really, you have to admit you don't understand me
What can I do to make you see
I'm not going to be a math major
Or even a college professor
I just can't stand crunching numbers and purcents
Head wrenching algebra makes no sense
I know, you only want me to succeed
But please, instead of math, I'd rather read
Understand I'm not alone here-
(Just making sure my point is clear)
My brother's gone off to college to write
But only after you put up a fight
Will that happen to me?
I'm not going to get down on my knees and plead
About choosing my own dreams
As 'rebellious' as it may seem
It's as if we're in seperate galaxies
Or like you need to perform an autopsy
I guess for now, regretfully, I'll try to do what I'm told
I won't roll my eyes or slam my door
I'll ask for no money and complete all my chores
Just don't ask me what I'm really thinking
I'll just shrug and blink
For my emotions won't be external
Just please-don't read my journal
