Through the Window
The snow is falling hard
and harder as the night goes on.
Ice clings to the dead branches
burdening their already frail frames.
The wind wails hard
and harder, sending shards of snow and ice flying in every direction
piercing the uncovered skin.
But inside we watch,
seeing this scene of nature’s unprecedented power,
without truly comprehending.
The thin barrier that protects us
from cold and warmth,
light and dark,
fiction and truth,
fantasy and reality,
all witnessed through our backyard window.
