See Me
Stop it.
 Please, just stop.
 I can't take it anymore.
Do you realize what it does to me when you say you can't get a girlfriend?
 That no one likes you?
I put on a concerned face and listen to your troubles
 But I crumble inside.

And I can't even be mad at you for complaining
Because you're shy, hesitant as you speak,
And I can't suspect that you're trying to hurt me,
 Because I know you.
You don't have a mean bone in your body.

I watch as you stare at her
 And I can't hate her
 Because she's nice, friendly, good
 Just like you.

But she looks at someone else
 And he looks back
And I want to scream at you to turn around and see me.

 I dreamed about you.
 Twice, actually.
I'd never dreamed about a boy before.
Not even my boyfriend from last year who gave me my first kiss.

 The first dream didn't matter.
I don't even remember what it was about.
 The second, though'
It was one of those dreams that
You go about your day thinking it really happened
Until something triggers the memory and you realize it wasn't real
Even though it was strong enough
To leave a taste on your tongue
 A smile on your lips
 A song in your heart

 It was a simple dream.
 We were at school
 And you hugged me
Holding me to you for an eternity
And I knew you saw me.

But then I had to wake up
And talk to you, our conversation cut short as she passed by.

 I had to wake up
 And go to English class
And listen as you told me
About the girl you couldn't win

And listen as you told me
That you could see yourself reflected in my eyes.

I had to stare into your deep, dark eyes
And know you didn't see me.

 I had to hug you
 And know it meant nothing.

I had to be the friend
And know you'd never see me as anything else.
