toxic us

you are not toxic.
i am not toxic.
together?
we are toxic.
because,
i’m a bottle of cola
and you are a bottle of mentos
we are both sweet,
quiet,
mellow
on our own.
but,
when i put you
inside my heart,
we were bound to explode.
and i tried to
put my cap back on
and keep you with me,
but, a bandaid
can’t stop
a bullet.
and one day,
the force and pressure
became too much
and we exploded.
and now,
we have to pick up
our broken pieces.
-because sometimes,
people are toxic together
but safe apart
