"What makes a flower a flower? And why doesn't the dandelion qualify?" -From my poem "Dandelions"

We are modernized hippies
Tie-dye
Feeling music
Expression through art
Long hair
Rejecting the ways of society
Yet we are not hermits
We drive an average car
Use an oven
Computers
And credit cards
We don’t live in a commune
Emancipated from normalcy
Walk the streets with our bare feet
Protest
Petitions
Save the Polar Bears
Global Warming does exist
The nation’s run with an iron fist
We ignore all the ways
That government plans for us to pay
Attention to so called democracy
And embrace each moment
Savor each day
That we can be free
In the wind, beneath the trees
Yet we return home each night,
Watch TV
Read popular books
And live our lives
As modernized hippies
