Cold Reality
Swirling leaves
 blown away
 leaving behind the trees,
now bare and shivering from the
 howling winds.

 Biting cold
 chilling your every bone.
 Frozen waters
 glistening in the sunlight,
 creating a perfect picture
 against the winter sky.

 Snow falls
 softly to the ground;
 the flakes performing a
 perfectly rehearsed ballet.
 Children, joyful children,
 laughing and playing in their
down coats and caps and gloves.

 Evergreens dusted
 with winters white wishes
for cleansing, for a new beginning.
 Fireplaces ablaze,
 warming cold fingers and toes
 frozen by Jack Frost.

 Winter brings
many joys and leaves behind a
 fresh slate.
 The earth longs for winter
 where it finds rest
under layers of snow and ice,
 but again the
 leaves with grow,
 the flowers will bloom,
and the animals will arise from their slumbers.

 Spring will bring
 sweet smells
 and warm weather; it rides
on the wings of the sparrows
 returning to their home
after a tiresome race from winter.
