“Writing is a form of personal freedom. It frees us from the mass identity we see in the making all around us. In the end, writers will write not to be outlaw heroes of some underculture but mainly to save themselves, to survive as individuals.”

The smooth,grainy sand
Covers my feet as I run
Down to the ocean
As it comes to me and greets me.

As I reach my destination,
Water envelopes my feet,
And tugs at my knees,
Beckoning me in.

I splash in until the water's at my waist.
The waves gently lift me up
And as the moon sends the wave back to the shore,
I am gently set down.

I submerge myself further
And a wave pushes me under.
I come up glistening,
with the saltwater's touch.
