I had hopes that id fill that void
even just a little
I had hopes that I could be what's needed
but I obviously don't understand
I had hopes of becoming something new
I may be new
but that’s not what she needs...

I look her in the eyes every day

and see happiness

but is it only on the outside?

She’s broken and beautiful

and my glues not strong enough...

I had hopes that id fill that void
even just a little
I had hopes that I could be what's needed
but I obviously don't understand
I had hopes of becoming something new
I may be new
but that’s not what she needs...

my hand traces patterns

on her knee

through her hair

and it still brings a smile to her eyes

a momentary distraction from the world left behind

what I wouldn’t give to keep her smile around

I had hopes that id fill that void
even just a little
I had hopes that I could be what's needed
but I obviously don't understand
I had hopes of becoming something new
I may be new
but that’s not what she needs...

maybe...

just…maybe...

there may still be hope to be had...

maybe someday I will take my place...

but will I be first ?

or not even in line...

I had hopes that id fill that void
even just a little
I had hopes that I could be what's needed
but I obviously don't understand
I had hopes of becoming something new
I may be new
but that’s not what she needs...
but that’s not what she needs...

will I ever be what...

she...

needs...?

"Unable are the loved to die, for love is immortality" ~Emily Dickinson

"The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain"
~Kahlil Gibran

Thank you for writing this poem, for it seemed to put in words the wonderful sympathy of love. It conveys the desperate and human nature of wanting to satisfy someone else's needs. It's very well written; I applaud you!
